Alastair Gibson artwork for sale and artist biography

With a wealth of talent, skill and knowledge in his field Alastair Gibson has gained a remarkable reputation throughout the F1 industry and now across the art world. With an ever growing demand for his very limited production of works, his immaculate finishing and attention to detail makes these sculptures not only a joy to view and possess, but keeps them highly exclusive and ...endows them with a collectability value which will stand the test of time.

Drawing inspiration from his experiences and challenges in motorsport, along with his passion for sea and wildlife, Alastair is creating exquisite, aero and hydro-dynamic sculpture in seamless form starting with one of the ocean’s most iconic predators, the hammerhead shark, he has developed and expanded his sculptural range to win world-wide recognition ranges through the depiction of the speed of the mako shark, the aggression of the red bellied piranha, the ancient lineage of the Atlantic sturgeon, and culminating in the familiarity of the native mackerel and trout.

Gibson’s work is at the intersection and cutting edge of both Art and Engineering. Every sculpture comes with its own specification sheet itemising precisely the F1 heritage of the car parts and their production / part numbers that have been incorporated into each sculpture. For example, the mounting of the first ‘Carbon king’ ed 1/6 was, in a previous life, the titanium barrel from the gearbox of Jenson Button’s 2006 race winning Hungarian Grand Prix Formula One car.

The Drang gallery is known internationally for its dedicated relationship with artist Alastair Gibson. Inspired by his lengthy career as a balance engineer in Formula One motor racing, his later success as a solo fine artist has seen Gibson win recognition across both the art sector and also the motor sports world. The Drang gallery has succeeded in growing the reputation of Alastair Gibson’s artwork on a global scale, and by doing so Alastair has become the leading exponent of carbon-fibre in the art world.

Alastair Gibson has pioneered a new form of sculpted art and has established himself as the front-runner in ‘carbon sculpture’. He has developed a portfolio of work over the last thirteen years that has wowed not only the art industry but also THE F1 world. Today, Gibson’s work can be seen in private investment collections, commercial locations and royal collections.Alastair’s Career & Experience

Gibson’s career included fifteen years in Formula 1, firstly as lead mechanic for the Benetton F1 team, followed by the role of race team chief mechanic for the BAR / Honda Grand Prix Team. Now as a recognised established artist, Gibson produces highly sought after and breath-taking sculptures which combine the strength and beauty of carbon-fibre with the best of technology in the F1 industry.

Each bespoke sculpture created by Alastair Gibson cleverly alludes to similarities between man-made and natural engineering. Through the depiction of the speed of the mako shark, the aggression of the red bellied piranha, the ancient lineage of the Atlantic sturgeon, and culminating in the familiarity of the native mackerel and trout. Always ambitious, Alastair has completed an array of magnificent life-sized works. One such piece, is the manta ray entitled the ‘Aero Manta’, which, with a 3 metre wing span, and manufactured in a ten piece mould, remains one of Alastair’s most impressive sculptures to date.

Each unique edition in Gibson’s portfolio uses current F1 car parts that accentuate the detailing of all the finer features. A full specification of such parts accompanies each piece of art.Working Partnerships

In 2016, Gibson was commissioned by Channel 4 to create a bespoke manta ray sculpture as a retirement gift for Jenson Button, which was presented to him by David Coulthard at the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Working with The Drang gallery and Roy Ackermann CBE, who runs ‘45 park lane arts club’ at The Dorchester London, we have seen Alastair produce two sell-out shows with the Dorchester chain already. We greatly look forward to stunning the Dorchester clients again in Geneva and Milan with a tour of shows throughout 2017.

The Drang Gallery is proud to have represented Alastair Gibson’s work since 2011 in the UK and at a variety of leading international art fairs. The gallery has succeeded in developing a collectors’ base from our galleries in the South West, whilst also bringing the work to the global market. The journey continues with exhibitions in Manchester, London, Hong Kong and Singapore on the horizon.
