Amrik Varkalis was born in the Punjabi region in 1949, and studied at the Manchester School of Art during the 1970's. She paints in the visual aesthetic tradition of British painting and observes and records English culture, especially the English landscape in which she lives. She is concerned with brush marks and positioning of colour in abstract landscapes, shapes in her f...igurative and abstract to work, creating minimalist compositions. Amrik uses vibrant oil and acrylic colours, often applied with a palette knife, to create multi-layered, joyful bursts of energy. Amrik has exhibited across the North, most recently being According to McGee, York, Stockport Art Gallery, Stockport, and Portico, Manchester.
