Andrew Millar, born in 1983 is a British artist whose main body of work focuses on the portrait.
Early on he became fascinated by various print processes as well as photography. It was only a matter of time until the autodidact came about the classic and almost forgotten Polaroid film more than a decade ago. He has since been pushing the limits and exploring the manipula...tive potential of this light sensitive material for his collages, applies leaf of precious metals and sometime’s acrylic colour in the finishing process by hand.
His pieces are delicate and detailed, capturing a haunting mixture of reality and fantasy. He brings together his visual elements from countless sources, then combining these in quiet, sometimes somber, surreal duo-chromatic portraits.
Andrew applies 24k gold leaf to his polaroid collages by hand - which means no two are the same. There is definite elegance to his detailed works, which make them seem like classic orthodox icons of anonymous saints or posters of forgotten movies and heroines.
We love the dreamy, Old Hollywood look that the artist achieves with his materials. If you’re after something elegant that has a retro feel, Andrew’s prints and collages may be just what you’re looking for.
The artist, who is based in East London, has enjoyed international solo exhibitions in Paris, Berlin, Barcelona and New York. He has also showcased his work at galleries throughout the UK.
