Anna Masters artwork for sale and artist biography

Anna’s practice incorporates wall-based pieces, three-dimensional works and site-specific installations. Creating complex and incredibly delicate compositions, Anna’s work is characterised by the way the materials appear to float mid-air, creating a sense of an inexplicable moment, frozen in time.
Using a delicate system of nylon threads, she suspends materials within the fr
...ame or the site. The materials she employs – predominantly natural, found or recycled materials – expose Anna’s love of form and attraction to detail. Both the materials, and the dedicated layering of the compositions, create a sense of the tactile and the ephemeral, which becomes almost immersive the closer you look.

Though often organic in their appearance, each composition is thoroughly planned, often utilising geometry, symmetry and mathematics in their design. In this way, Anna can be seen to attempt to rationalise the themes that inspire her work: the complexities (and irrationalities) of human nature and cultural norms. Particularly apparent in her recent works is a preoccupation with the resistance to time and change, and the paradox of its inevitability. There is a sombreness to her works: the butterflies she uses, symbolic of change, are prevented from completing their life-cycle. Meanwhile, watch parts, the very mechanics of time, are suspended motionless apart from their counterparts, whilst time progresses regardless.

Anna’s quiet, contemplative work embraces both the beauty of the world and the nuances of our relationships with it. The result is a portfolio that is visually captivating, rewarding close observation with an enviable level of detail and subtlety.
