One of Britain's most highly regarded glassmakers Bob has become renowned for the high quality innovative and dynamic forms that he has been producing over the last 25 years.
Bob trained at West Surrey College of Art and Design. He worked at the celebrated First Glass in London before taking the bold step of setting up his own business in 1990. In 2002 he relocated to D...evon where he converted farm buildings into a state of the art workshop and gallery for 'First Glass'.
All work is designed, handmade and finished by Bob Crooks himself. No moulds are used to create the forms or surfaces achieved and no two pieces are identical.
His pieces are inspired by geometry, architecture, the natural and man-made worlds we live in as well as the qualities and capabilities of the glass itself. Bob exploits the many properties of the material through refraction or reflection; sharpness or softness, transparency or opacity, working with its fluidity and 'freezing' it as the desired form is realised.
Continuously thinking of original and challenging ideas the pieces range from the dainty to the dynamic - producing contemporary decanters, finely balanced vases and elegant perfume bottles.
His work has been exhibited at International level and in noted exhibitions in Italy, China, Scandinavia, Australia and the USA, alongside many exhibitions at home in the UK.
Bob has won numerous awards and commissions and his work is held in a number of public and commercial collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum; National Museums of Scotland; the Crafts Council Collection, London; the British Council Collection, London and the Sainsbury Collection, London.
