Brian Elwell was born in 1938 and began his artistic career at Chelsea School of Art, and was awarded the Chelsea Diploma in Fine Art and a Leverhulme Travelling Scholarship. He subsequently studied for an M.A. in Fine Art and a Higher Diploma in Printmaking at Birmingham Polytechnic and Wimbledon School of Art.
The London City paintings are a response to conditions of l...ight and scale in the ever changing urban environment of the Thames and Canary Wharf.
Brian has previously exhibited in London at St. Pauls Cathedral, The Mall Galleries, Artmonsky Arts and Roland Browse and Delbanco, as well as a number of provincial galleries
He was formerly employed as a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Southampton Institute of Higher Education, and is currently Director of Riverside Studios near Bath, and a member of Bath Art Society. He has been exhibiting nationally and internationally in group shows since 1982, and solo shows since 1995 nationally. His work is in the collections of Stephanie Cole, John Sergeant, Helen Noone, David Messum, Marquis of Bath, Salisbury District Hospital, Falkiner Fine Papers, Charles Pettiward, Southampton University, Southern Arts Association, Linda Saunders, Brian Roper, Starbucks and Theatre Royal Bath.
