Dante began painting in her teens and her first art tutor was her father, artist Don Benzien in the late 80's and early 90's. Under the tutelage of other great South African artists she developed her characteristic style which is playful yet arresting.
Dante currently resides in the coastal town of Stanford in the Western Cape of South Africa. Home to some of South Afric...a’s finest artists namely, Gregoire Boonziaer, Marjorie Wallace and Maggie Laubser, the scenic beauty of the area has been an inspiration to many, no less to Dante, who considers her 10 years there as being career changing.
However, unlike many other artists from the region, she has transitioned from realistic landscape painting to more of an impressionistic figurative style. Capturing the women of street and domestic scenes, her figures seem to look right into the heart of the viewer with a knowing look or a warm hint of a smile. Delightfully colourful in nature they are joyful and tender.
