Emma Jean Kemp artwork for sale and artist biography
Emma’s sculpture appeals to the senses. Her work explores human experience: from how we feel to how we move, to how we deal with everyday life and the choices we make. The presentation of her figures is an integral part of Emma’s work: by designing bespoke structures, her figures playfully interact with their surroundings in a way that adds to their narrative, presenting us wit...h a defining moment in their life.
Much of Emma’s work manifests her enthusiasm for agility, acrobatics and dance inspired from her love of Capoeira (a Brazilian martial art). Her more recent work, celebrates the human body’s impressive range of motion, as we are the most adaptive species on the planet. Emma hopes her work will connect with people’s inherent need to explore the world through movement.
Emma has always shown an interest in art and the process of making, which led her to live and study in Florence in 2004. Emma then proceeded to Nottingham Trent University for a Fine-Art degree, during which she acquired a different approach to her practice, exploring interactive and community arts. She continued in this line or work after graduating yet soon began to miss the craft and tactile nature of clay and moved to Bristol in 2010 to focus on figurative sculpture.
