Henrietta Stuart artwork for sale and artist biography

Henrietta Stuart is a contemporary artist. In 2002 to 2003 She travelled through India and Sri Lanka and then settled in the South of France for the next 6 years. In 2010 She spent 6 months travelling around Australia where she discovered new landscapes flooded with antipodean colour, light and shade so different to her European experience. She returned to the UK in 2011 and no...w has her studio in the Wimbledon Art Studios.
Henrietta paints abstracts in oil on canvas, based on ‘things seen’: formerly still life, now mostly landscape, in which she aims to evoke time and place, using colour and light. She paints in thin layers, laying paint over paint to exploit its transparency, a technique of which Turner and Titian were both masters.

Her formative influences included Georgio Morandi, Paul Cézanne, Georges Braque, Mark Rothko, Robert Motherwell, and Clyfford Still. Morandi is remembered for pointing out that “There is nothing more abstract than the visible world”. In her own way she sets out to make abstract compositions out of things she has seen, and been moved by.

Her painting process has been developed over years, from abstracts based on still life, to compositions woven from images taken from nature. The artist is always taking from places and images that I have seen; compositions are worked from in-depth drawing. The finished painting always ranges from complete abstract compositions and more easily recognisable landscape images: evoking a greater sense of time and place.

She has exhibited not only in the United Kingdom, but also in Europe and the United States.
