John Butterworth artwork for sale and artist biography
Hampshire born abstract artist, John Butterworth, is influenced by the work of Kurt Schwitters, Antonio Tapies, Per Kirkeby and Gerhard Richter and like them John relishes the broad use of a variety of materials and processes. John's images evolve through a dialogue between the internal idea or source of inspiration and the medium/media used to produce it. The work therefor...e becomes an autonomous entity with its own logical coherence with sometimes only a glancing relation to what exists outside its frame.Through his abstract work, John seeks to communicate in a vital way what he experiences and what inspires or affects him as an Artist. These textured abstract works are produced using mixed mediums, such as oil paint, acrylic and watercolour, as well as various print making techniques (including etching and lithography). The artist attempts to visually display real emotions which are sometimes difficult to express. "Certainly my own creative practice has enabled me to process my own ‘raw experiences’ and i hope this may have helped other’s to express their feelings too". John has exhibited widely, both in this country and abroad, participating in two Biennales in Monaco and one in Cleveland, UK. He recently showed in a fund raising exhibition at the Saatchi gallery in London. His work is in many public and private collections, including those of Bristol education authority, Kent authority and Hampshire County Council.
