Katty McMurray was born in1970, Wimbledon, and studied at Epsom School of Art for a BTEC National Diploma in General Art & Design. In 1989 she went to Chelsea School of Art where she obtained a BA (Hons) degree.
Katty’s work is based on her travels throughout England and Scotland as well as to various other parts of the world including Morocco, Spain, India, Italy, t...hese places have also been her subjects. While travelling she quickly records shapes, lines and colours in sketchbooks. On returning to the studio, these drawings are used as a basis for her larger paintings in oil on canvas, keeping the strong lines, and using colour to recreate the atmosphere of a place. The cool blues /greys and earthy shades which infuse her work, give the landscapes a simple serenity.
In 1999 she was selected as the Brighton Festival poster artist, she has since had many commissions including a painting on the ‘Queen Victoria’ Cruise Liner, a series of paintings for ‘Harbour Way’ apartments by Taylor Woodrow and in 2006 she was commissioned to draw a series of London Landmarks to be reproduced over 200 times on a scale of 3 metres each for ‘The Hoxton Hotel’ in London.
Both the CCA Galleries and Artizan Editions have published limited edition prints of Katty’s work and her work is published as posters and cards for the Art Group and The Cannes Down Press.
Over the last few years Katty has had a series of successful solo and sell shows, and continues to exhibit with galleries in London and around the UK. Last year Great Ormond Street Hospital bought two collections of Katty’s paintings, they now have over 25 of her works on display.
Katty lives in Brighton with her partner and two sons.
