Laura Jordan artwork for sale and artist biography
Laura was born in 1984 and grew up in Haslemere Surrey. She moved to London in 2004 to study graphic design and editorial illustration at the London college of Communication, graduating in 2007.
Often compared to some of the world's greatest draughtsmen, Laura's ability to put pen to paper and map out complex, yet aesthetically pleasing and stimulating cityscapes, is pu...re creative genius. Laura takes her inspiration from visiting cities and capturing her ideas initially through photography capturing 500-2000 moments on camera as well as spending a large amount of time people watching and trying to understand how the people of the city function and move about their daily lives.
She divides her attention between the physical spaces, colour and shape of a city and it's cultural economical and social behaviour, eventually being able to combine the different elements and making visual connections. Nestled into the narrative of each piece Laura's work features thought provoking social commentary in the stories; usually of events and policies within the city she is depicting.
Once back in the studio Laura will create lots of small illustrations, usually drawn up from scenes and ideas she's captured whilst visiting the city and this creates the starting point for the cityscape. Drawing in small sections she creates scenes of various aspects that make up a part of the city - these many scenes are then knitted together and encouraged to cross paths and create a larger city scene which then allows the viewer to appreciate all the belongings of a city at once with its many connections and juxtapositions creating the feel of city life with individual moments, making up the bigger picture of a metropolis existence.
Through exhibitions in London, Paris, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore Laura Jordan has built up an international reputation with her unique hand finished prints becoming ever increasingly popular amongst collectors.
