Sally Grant is a professional sculptor with an impressive exhibition history, including the Royal West of England Academy, where she is an RWA Artist Network Member, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and the RHS Gardens in Rosemoor and Overbecks.
Her work emphasises, by distortion, the dynamics of the human figure, giving her sculpture an expressionistic or abstrac...t tendency which is fluid and elegant. Some quite small in scale, others large enough to be placed outside; each piece starts with a clay maquette which is, after various stages of refinement, cast into bronze, marble or slate resin.
Sally is inspired by the body’s ability to communicate its emotional state through posture and gesture. Throughout the different forms of her sculpture you will find an equally varied range of emotions demonstrated. Joy, remembrance, longing or contemplation - the use sharp lines with soft curves and simplified forms are immediately expressive - a quality which allows the viewer to immediately empathise with the work.
A juxtaposition of relaxation with tension and a monumental style with intimate detail it often takes months to finish a piece to Sally's high standard.
Sally has received various private commissions and her work can be seen publicly at the Austwick Hall Sculpture Trail.
