Tina Stokes SWA was born in the West Midlands 1964 and went on to study Fine Art at Exeter College of Art and Design, gaining an honours degree in Fine Art and Sculpture.
She has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember. As a young girl, her family say her only interest was playing with a paint brush. With much encouragement even from this tender age, sh...e developed a fine command of both acrylic and oil painting.
Drawn to the coast, you can often find Tina painting 'en plein air' or in her studio on the edge of the Exe Estuary, inspired by the ever changing light conditions, she is captivated by the mood and feeling by the sea.
"Each day holds a new adventure and a sense of excitement. The daubs of paint on my palette are quickly mixed to create the unique, ever changing atmosphere that lies beyond my window. The powerful skies with the colours and movement, create a frenzy with the paintbrush. My ideal time being early morning with its fresh brightness and evening light with magical sunsets."
Her soft dreamy style and palette is reminiscent of Turner. Tina's paintings never tire, they are reflective and calming - a perfect foil for today’s stressful world.
Perhaps her greatest accolade was in the winning of the President’s Prize at the 150th anniversary show against 8000 other entrants from around the world. Today Tina is established as one of South Devon's most popular artists and is an elected member of The Society of Women’s Artists (SWA). Her work is hung in private collections including that of HRH Princess Michael of Kent and in the Palace of Westminster.
