Finding a suitable definition for 'Modern British Art' is not easy. Arguably it spans a great swathe of work executed by British artists in a modern and progressive style all the way from the 1900's onwards. Encompassing styles such as Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Suprematism, Constructivism, De Stijl, Dada, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Minimalism, it was an exciting period of change in the Western Hemisphere which was taken up enthusiastically by British Artists. From the Newlyn School to the Northern School, British interpretations of Modern art have become highly collectable.
You'll find examples below of such artwork from well-known names such as Francis Bacon, Patrick Caulfield, Geoffrey Key, Peter Howson OBE, Elizabeth Blackadder, William Ralph Turner, Fred Yates, Sir Terry Frost, Anthony Frost, Barbara Rae, John Byrne, Alan Lowdes and Bruce McLean. Excitingly they are all available through ArtsHaus for purchase.
Given the success of these artists, it shouldn't come as a surprise that contemporary artists have been inspired by their work and continue to produce art in the Modern British style. Contemporary artists of note which continue to grow in popularity and stature include David Bez, Michael Ashcroft, Ian Mood, John Duffin, Trevor Price, Rob Pointon, Ghislaine Howard and Ian Pearsall. However, this would be to name just a few!
