This Week's Must See: Still Life's

Still life artwork can often be overlooked when it comes to choosing artworks, but they are one of the most timeless subjects, where artists have sought to use objects to express sentiments of time passing, human presence or the pleasures of life.

Primarily seen as a genre of painting, they are often admired for their quiet, contemplative beauty which can be realistic or illustrative in nature. Often executed in classic oils or bold acrylics a still life typically depicts an inanimate object or collection of objects, that although on the surface appear mundane, often have symbolic meanings. These might include arrangements of fruits, flowers, banquet pieces, tableware, skulls, jewellery or animals for example.
