Brilliant museum, lots of exhibitions, I enjoyed the Smallfilms gallery that housed the actual puppets for Bagpuss, The Clangers, Noggin the Nog. It had all the drawings to make the shows and Ivor the Engine, and lots of other artifacts from Rupert and Basil Brush. As Bagpuss was filmed in a barn in Blean. It's a great museum for children lots of interactive things to do.Nice display of paintings, a few with the Cathedral in them.Free to enter and also houses the public library and tourist information centre. It also has a shop so you can own your own Clanger or Bagpuss.Accessible toilets are also available. It's situated right in the high street, near the cathedral and bus station, the Marlowe Theatre and shops and restaurants.Staff are very helpful and friendly.Would definitely visit again and would recommend it to anyone.Have visited before the pandemic and used to have a cafe, it would be nice to see that back again.

It's absolutely fabulous!!! Not even inside the museum, and you are struck by the gorgeous facade that reminds me of Shakespeare and that era. But once entered, you will discover a totally different word from what you've seen in Canterbury. The multitude and the variety of artefacts and exhibits will definitely amaze you. It's a place where the whole family can enjoy a great time and learn new information about gems, wildlife, paintings, etc.Definitely, it's worth visiting!

Amazing layout, intertwining aspects of both museum and art galleries! I went with the family and there was a lot to enjoy, with activities for smaller children to partake in too.The 'Mirror Mirror' exhibition was great, and the staff scattered around places knew a lot about the pieces and items! First time visiting, but would definitely visit again some time when in Canterbury!

Amazing FREE museum in the centre of Canterbury high street. There is something for all the family to enjoy. Each room of this amazing old building has a different gallery or exhibition on show. For me (a child of the 70's) the most amazing and enchanting room is The Smallfilms Gallery. In there you will find the original character dolls, models and animation tools from Bagpus, The Clangers and Basil Brush to name but a few. It will bring back all of your chidhood TV memories. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Canterbury. It is free to enter all of the areas, but please consider donating a few pounds if you can to help support the great work on display and to keep the galeries free for everyone. 10/10

The perfect place for a family. We can spend there hours reading children's books, cooking books or just have rest on the carpet. They have kids workshops and story times and summer reading challenges with real medals. And also winter events.Just read today a really funny book.

I was very impressed by this museum. There was a wide range of items on display which were thoughtfully presented to appeal to both children and adults. The was a special exhibition of children's film and book characters such as Rupert the bear, Noggin the Nog, Bagpus and the Clangers. Again very well presented. This museum is free to enter but there are boxes for cash and electronic donations. There is a small coffee shop on site but it seemed to be closed.

I went to this Museum & Library by chance and was amazed to see the collection. Don't know why its not famous.Located at a 2min distance from the Westgate Tower when you walk towards the High Street and Cathedral. The entry was free. A good library, couple of fantastic galleries, Museum rooms were there.Various paintings, swords, weapons, doll rooms, cute cartoon characters, animal and birds made of different stuff were really adorable. This place is very well maintained and staff is also nice.Must visit for kids and family too.

As with many local museums, this has an eclectic mixture of items including art and historical artifacts. It includes a room dedicated to local BAFTA award winners Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate whose stop-motion TV creations include Bagpussnd the Clangers. Wow that took me back to my youth. A whole hall dedicated to Smallfilms. Classics like Bagpuss and Ivor the Engine. Lots of other great areas to explore and not the feeling of a "stuffy" museum. Well done to everyone who contributes to this place Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No … More

It is a beautiful building that, unfortunately, has always plenty of drunk and high people sitting on their stairs. I'm not sure why it is such a magnet for those people.... perhaps the "free library" sign. ???? Visited on Public holiday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Not sure … More

The Beaney is an excellent and must visit art place at Canterbury, offering a delightful array of art and history. My little one thoroughly enjoyed trying on the costumes, adding to the charm of our visit. Canterbury itself is a remarkable city, and The Beaney only enhances its allure, providing a serene environment rich with artistic and historical treasures to explore.

Fantastic place to visit if you're in the area!So good regardless of age I think - something for everyone. We visited as two adults for the gallery and history and had a great time. Entry was free, which is incredible for what you can do and see here. It was clear there were tons of activities for kids. There were lots of information points, a library and shop too. There was a lift inside. We particularly enjoyed the art gallery side of it, staff all friendly and approachable.

We visited this museum as a group of adults and a six year old child. We all enjoyed the experience including the child, she found something interesting and playful in every room. The building itself is worth admiring, the collection and displays are engaging. I highly recommend this museum to everyone but especially to families. Visited on Weekend … More
