Leeds Art Gallery

The strength of this museum is in its modern art collection, which features many works by very talented if little-known 20th-century British painters and sculptors. The collection rivals the art galleries of Bristol or Glasgow, for example. A rotating gallery by local contemporary artists is always featured, which is an additional strength. It's not exactly one of the great fine art museums of Europe, and I would not be on the top of my list for places to visit if one were spending a couple of days in Leeds. But, for the regular visitor to Leeds, it's a must-see. And it's great for locals. Totally free admission!

The two buildings are like a gallery, shared with the library, the building is very old and a bit neglected, but it can be seen if you come to the city.

Precious Gallery in Leeds!!!… it has various collections of painting and sculpture. Its interior is pleasant, peaceful, where you can walk and spend at least an hour. It has a fairly large free reference library. There is a cafeteria and restrooms available. Admission is free. It also has a souvenir shop.

AMAZING museum with all kinds of amenities like a washroom, locker room for 1 pound, and a nice canteen.The staff is really nice and very helpful. They answer all queries in detail.Actually, staff is the reason why this place is so popular.

Interactive and interesting day out. Admittedly, I can find some art galleries a bit dry... But the Leeds gallery is always a pleasure to wander around.Always a mix of modern and traditional artwork. In the basement, there is often an interactive hands on craft activity for children and adults alike to get involved with (I think it was magazine and news paper collage when I visited).Staff are very friendly and the cafe and shop are really good to go to as well.Excellent location on the headrow. Easily accessible by bus and a short 10-15 minute walk from the train station.

Not my first time in leeds but the first time in this art gallery. The staff are all very friendly. Very helpful and cheerful. There was a lot of breathtaking art to see. One large room was empty at the time of my visit. Leeds library is connected and I recommend popping in to see the architecture. And yes it was free as I wasn't sure myself beforehand.

Not really a massive museum guy, but the art in here as half decent, better than anything I'd come up with.Good little walk around, with a nice cafe attached for when you've finished. Easy to find location too.It's worth a trip to see some good art.

From someone who visited here monthly for 10 years or so, it's not really changed or improved much at all. A lack of events is uninspiring, especially considering the efforts other museums and galleries go to.The children's space is good, the art rooms are spacious and the opportunity to learn about the art is great, however the atmosphere & staff are generally quite miserable. Come to think of it's they seem actively grumpy.Cafe is priced high, although it's setting and decor is wonderful. No parking, it's in the centre of the city. Great for visitors, but not much change or sign of any events that keeps locals engaged.

Impressive building with lots of art both traditional and modern. I Don't really get the modern stuff but each to their own. There's plenty about feminism and women's rights at the moment if that's your thing.There's plenty for children to keep them occupied.Has a cafe but we didn't get a chance to enjoy it. Set in a beautiful building with a wonderful tiled cafe. The art displays are limited, with a small display of original museum acquisitions from the late 1800s. There are several spaces dedicated to installation art upstairs and downstairs. I found those less interesting, which I know is person taste. There are 2 beautiful bronze statues. The gallery is free. Next door is the Moore gallery and design centre.
