A very good, free to visit museum in the heart of Bristol! Interesting, well presented exhibits ranging from native wildlife and dinosaur fossils to pottery and Victorian art, and of course the obligatory Egyptian section. It was quite busy when I went on a weekday, with lots of young families, but once I got away from the first floor, it wasn't so bad. Excellent way to spend a rainy day in Bristol

Wonderful muesum to visit in Bristol. We had an excellent time and learning at the muesum. Each section needs minimal of 30 to 45 mins for detailed glance of the exhibits. This muesum have various sections as First one is about the Birds and animals live nearby Bristol and sea shore. EGYPT section have good collection of artifacts from the ancient Egypt. One mummy also on the display. Good place to take young minds to explore.

Bristol Museum and Art Gallery is a great place to visit whatever your age. It is free to enter The Eyptian and Asseryian galleries are fascinating. There are places for children to play and learn. The cafe is an interesting space and expands into the hall space at the end of the Museum. There is also a large shop. There is a lift into the building and a lift inside the Museum on the right handside of the Museum to all floors but it is a bit hidden away.

The museum boasts an impressive collection that spans various eras and disciplines, making it a captivating journey through time and art. From ancient civilizations to contemporary masterpieces, each exhibit showcases a carefully curated selection of artifacts and artworks. I was particularly impressed with the attention to detail in presenting historical items, offering insightful narratives that breathe life into each display.

Fajne miejsce. Warto iść w deszczowy dzień, żeby go nie stracić.

Nice place to be and spend time in, has got many nice and apealing paintings. For the most part the exhibition was not crowded, which made for good atmosphere within the building. The smaller exhibitions (right of the entrance in my case, something about egypt I believe) suffered because of little lighting and tight walkways, but do not have to be seen to be abled to enjoy the main exhibition.

A great way to pass a few hours and a good art selection. A couple of the video installations had issues with picture and sound, just needs updating. Only negative feedback is the dire need for some of the glass on exhibits to be cleaned - very dusty. Feels like things need a bit of a spruce up.

Excellent museum with so many exhibitions within it. Enjoyed the effort the Indians made during the wars with so many people who died for GB. Some people present were annoyed by Winston Churchill's lack of human compassion in India. Museum is highly recommended!

We took our son for the first time. He's 6 years old and is Autistic, so we weren't sure how this would go, but it was lovely and peaceful, with a steady flow of visitors. The gift shop is pleasant. We didn't visit the cafe as we had already eaten. The ONLY downside, in my opinion, is the body in the box. It asks if visitors think it should be there; I don't, I am afraid. I think it's quite a disturbing thing to see (I know it does warn you and you aren't forced to look, but most people are inquisitive). I appreciate others will feel differently, so I cannot fault my experience at the museum. I do hope people donate as this is a wonderful place.

Magnificent and deserves to be better patronised. When I visited there was a skillfully curated exhibition of European paintings from a different perspective. The collection contains some unusual paintings by well known painters plus some paintings by much less well known painters but of special interest such as an unfinished picture by a lady named Gonsales who worked with Manet. This museum and gallery is at least as interesting as the one in Birmingham.

So amazing!! There was so much cool stuff to look at, and as much as I was aware, it was all free. Was amazing to learn about Egyptian life and the collection of fossils and precious stones was fascinating. I would definitely come back. Great place to check out. There is also a cafe which is situated in the hall of the building which seems like a lovely place to grab a bite and a coffee, but i didn’t try it so cant comment on the food.

Lots of variety here and will easily keep you entertained for an afternoon . Pleasant cafe selling cakes drinks and sandwiches. Free entry and you can make a donation if you want, but this is not obligatory. There is a flight of steps to get in but there is a buggy park in the building once you have ascended the steps. There are lots of levels which are accessed by steps. Quite an electic mix of art and natural history. I was particularly impressed with the dinosaur section . It was popular with families with young children.

As an avid art enthusiast, I've had the privilege of visiting numerous museums around the world, but the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery truly stands out as a hidden gem. Nestled within the heart of Bristol, this remarkable institution houses a vast and diverse collection of archaeological artifacts, geological specimens, and captivating artworks. My recent visit to the museum was an absolute delight, filled with unexpected discoveries and profound artistic encounters. One of the highlights was stumbling upon a secret room, discreetly tucked away from the main galleries. Within this hidden chamber, I was greeted by an extraordinary sight – an original Picasso painting, its vibrant colours and bold strokes radiating an undeniable aura of genius. The presence of a Picasso masterpiece in this unassuming museum was a testament to the institution's commitment to preserving and showcasing artistic treasures. It was a privilege to stand before this iconic work, immersing myself in the creative genius of one of the world's most celebrated artists.Beyond the Picasso revelation, the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery offers a rich tapestry of artistic experiences. The museum's collection spans centuries, showcasing works from renowned artists like Rembrandt, Van Dyck, and Turner, alongside captivating pieces by local artists like Banksy.

The Bristol Museum & Art gallery is a wonderful place with plenty of things to see and do. Our family spent more than 3 hours there, and we still weren't able to properly view everything they had to offer! We found the West Asian exhibits in particular rather interesting, and the sea life exhibit was also lovely to look at. The porcelain and the artwork were so beautiful, it was just a shame we'd had other arrangements to rush to!You could easily get lost in all the wonderful things they have to display, especially in the higher floors. The architecture is generally quite beautiful too.

I spent a lot of time here as a childminder and with my son when he was younger. It is a brilliant place to inspire young minds and old alike. The play area is in dire need of an upgrade. The last one must have been over ten years ago and it's looking a bit sad but still fun enough for a break from the exhibitions. The gift shop is brilliant and the paid exhibitions are really good and well presented. It's great that they have found this happy medium between charging and not charging (most of the exhibitions are free). It's got some very cool dinosaurs and a stuffed Jay bird so what's not to love (ref my name). The cafe is ok I think. Haven't been in for a while but I remember it being quite good before.Something to note is that they do home ed specific stuff so worth checking out if you are HE.A note for more sensitive kids - there are mummies in the Egyptian bit, including cat mummies. It's also dark so could be a bit scary for some.

I always enjoy visiting the museum. Lots to see and different events on throughout the year. Despite having visited a number of times, I always learn something new. There are many exhibits so you can spread things out over a number of visits :)The toilets, however, really need a re-work. The cubicals in the ladies room are TINY. I hate using them as you have to drag your body, clothing, bag, etc across the cubical wall just to fit in the door! Feels very unsanitary and claustrophobic :( If they upgraded the toilets, I would visit much more often.

As Bristol residents for over five years, my family and I recently ventured into the captivating world of the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, and what a discovery it was! Nestled in the heart of the city, this museum proved to be an enriching experience for both adults and children alike.Accompanied by our curious 4-year-old daughter, we were greeted by an extensive collection that left us in awe from the moment we stepped foot inside. The museum boasts an impressive array of exhibits, ranging from majestic dinosaur skeletons and ancient fossils to intricately preserved animals, birds, and insects. What truly impressed us was the diversity of the displays. Whether exploring the wonders of nature through minerals or delving into the rich tapestry of human history through art and artifacts, there was something to pique the interest of every visitor. The museum effortlessly intertwines education with entertainment, making it an ideal destination for families seeking both fun and learning. We found ourselves completely engrossed in the exhibits, spending hours marveling at the sheer depth of knowledge on display. With so much to see and absorb, it's easy to lose track of time within the museum's walls. We could easily have spent a half-day exploring every nook and cranny, discovering new wonders at every turn. After immersing ourselves in the treasures of the museum, we took a well-deserved break at the onsite café. The café provided a cozy retreat where we could relax, refuel, and reflect on our museum journey, while our daughter spent her last bit of energy at the designed kids area. One of the most remarkable aspects of the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery is its accessibility. Despite the wealth of knowledge it houses, there is no entrance fee, making it an inclusive space for all. However, donations are encouraged to support the museum's endeavors, a gesture we were more than happy to make given the enriching experience we had.The "negative" side of things if you can say so, is the parking, that is quite a struggle to find and quite pricey. In conclusion, our visit to the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery left an indelible impression on our family. It is a cultural gem that deserves to be celebrated and explored by locals and visitors alike. With its vast collection, engaging exhibits, and welcoming atmosphere, it is a destination that we wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking a memorable and educational experience in Bristol.
