Ailsa Read lives and works in Yorkshire and she studied MA Creative Practice at Leeds Arts University, graduating in 2015. Her paintings are somewhere between contemporary and traditional, based on detailed observation, but also in trying to convey the spirit of the sea as the last wilderness. Recording the moods of the sea is a constant challenge, and she always wants to re...main open to the possibilities of experimentation with different mixed media. Being aware of the sounds, smells and the way the light falls on the water, gives her an exciting and powerful approach to her paintings.
Her current practice focuses on the persecution of the Lancashire Pendle Witches and their representation through art practice.
