Award winning artist David Walker works in both oil paints and watercolours who has exhibited throughout the UK, France and China.
Before concentrating on illustration and fine art painting David trained and practiced as an architect for 12 years establishing himself as an architectural visualiser, producing commissioned Illustrations. Therein developed David's fascinati...on with architecture and the urban environment.
As a painter, David’s work is primarily concerned with the built environment, especially in London where he lives and works. The play of light and atmosphere on the manmade forms of our cities is something that constantly intrigues and motivates him, creating atmospheres, moods and forms which provide a constant source of inspiration.
The notion of place is also important - he creates paintings that are familiar to any city-dweller but at the same time abstract enough to apply to our own experiences. Figures appear within the paintings, but the physical structures and buildings often overshadow them, making them feel just small parts of a bigger picture.
David is a three times winner of the Frank Herring award at both the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, as well as a recipient of the Rowland Hilder award and ‘The Artist’ magazine award.
"The paintings aim to express a kind of curious beauty of the everyday, and record glimpses as almost abstract compositions of colour, light and form"
