LUCY MCKIE ROIBorn in Yorkshire in 1974, Lucy chose not to follow the route of a formal art school education, instead preferring simply to paint and learn from close observation, and studying painting and portraiture. She began accepting commissions, and now has portraits and still life paintings in collections all over the world.
Lucy’s art and still life painting focus...es on a combination of every day and often quirky objects, which hopefully encourages the viewer to see beauty and inspiration in things that might not always catch their attention. The paintings often have a serene mood, which she tries to actively express. Lucy has a love of intricate detail and capturing light, beauty and form. Lucy works exclusively in oil paint on canvas or linen, painting from a combination of life and some photography. She tends to work on one painting at a time so that she can focus entirely on the subject. Her paintings take a varied amount of time depending on complexity and are developed carefully. She begins with a detailed pencil study drawn directly onto the canvas and then builds up the oil paintings gradually over the established structure of the initial drawing. Usually she works with rather small brushes painting very finely, gradually building the detail.
She was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 2011 and serves as a council member for the society. Lucy was included in the Mall Galleries prestigious "Pure Gold" exhibition, celebrating 50 years of the Federation of British Artists.
