Robert Walker was born in Bedfordshire in 1963. Although his paintings would never convey this, he is a completely self-taught artist.
Taking his inspiration from the traditional still life paintings of the European masters, Robert has always been particularly attracted to Rembrandt and the Dutch masters because of their dramatic use of light and tone.
While his ...paintings still feature the conventional still life elements of glass, fruit and porcelain he combines these with a mixture of more eclectic items such as antique furniture, metal containers and objects d’art to create compositions with a contemporary feel. The styling and finishing of the pieces drags the traditional still life subject into a very modern interpretation.
Robert takes great pleasure in creating a simple composition and transforming it into a work of art. He enjoys the challenge of transforming an everyday object into a thing of beauty.“The simplest object can become a thing of beauty if it is handled in the correct way, which is always the challenge.”
Robert exhibits his work all over the world and has been a finalist in The National Open Art Competition in 2011 and 2012.
