Will Rochfort was born in 1985 and is entirely self taught. Will grew up in Lymington and, as a child, loved ‘super heroes’ in comic books. This childhood interest resulted in Will’s fascination with depicting the human figure, and a passion for figurative illustration and film. He is particularly inspired by the work of American illustrators Norman Rockwell and Edward Hopper. ...‘I love strong paintings with colour and depth, and a confidence in the brushwork’.
He studied Illustration and Fine Art at Kingston University where he developed his narrative style of oil painting and since graduating in 2008 has carved a successful career as a full time artist
During 2012, Will was one of the official artists for the London Olympics, documenting the progress of young athletes as they prepared for The Games.
Creativity is the driving force behind Rochfort's work; through a great interest in composition, colour, and a mix of old and new techniques he creates his unique paintings.
"Every painting is different and I take inspiration from a number of sources. Film is a huge influence but I also reference many 20th Century artists, comic books, music, several illustrators, the contemporary arts and graphic design. I love a good story and themes of relationships, loneliness and humanity inspire me to paint" Although the artist is surrounded by nature in his home in the New Forest, this is not translated through his paintings, which are people and interiors focused. The artist believes that he can't represent the beauty of nature in the same way he can represent people and interiors. Will has paintings in several private international collections in the UK, Europe, USA and Africa along with an artwork on public display in the Ritz-Carlton, Bangalore, India.
Will continues to paint from his studio in Hampshire and is available for commissions please contact The Wey Gallery for further information.
