Artist Biography

Tina Morgan SWA was born in the seaside village of Lynton in Devon in 1952. She studied art and design in Cornwall and after gaining an S.I.A.D. (Society of Industrial Artists and Design.) in Industrial Design, Tina worked as an Art Director in London for a number of top creative advertising agencies. During this time she won many awards including 2 at the Cannes Film Festival, 4 in London and 1 in Ireland.

In 1985 after taking an 18 month sabbatical to sail to the Caribbean she decided it was time to make a big career change and became a full time artist. Since then she has exhibited widely, winning several awards including the Windsor and Newton Price and Daler Rowney People's Choice Award. Now a member of prestigious Society of Women Artists and the South West Academy of artists, Tina regularly exhibits also at The Royal Society of British Artists in The Mall, London.

Tina is known for her impressionist paintings of coastal scenes, markets and streets of the U.K., Europe, and America. Living close to British beaches, it is not surprising that she excels in depicting the classic beach holiday atmosphere. This she complements with townscapes, orchards and nude studies.

Tina specialises in oils and the distinctive soft colour palette of her work is very recognisable. Painterly brush marks of colour convey the light and atmosphere of an abstract time and place. For her, the memory is a far more liberating way to depict a scene than painting on the spot, so she produces sketches and spends a long time just taking in a scene which she memorises and takes back to the studio.

Inspired by contemporary impressionism, Tina's work is characterised by beautiful, soft, fuzzy shifts of colour and tone, depicting movement in her figures, and fleeting light effects in her beach scenes.
